Alphabet Tracing Worksheets

Every letter page on this site lives here — and this family is taught in stroke-difficulty order, not alphabetical order. The sequence below is l, c, e, t, d, b, m — each one sitting where it sits for a reason the alphabet can't explain.

The order we teach, and why

The sequence is set by stroke difficulty and the order of actions: how many strokes a letter takes, how often the hand must change direction, whether two different actions have to be joined, and whether one action must be repeated well. Alphabetical order ignores all four — this one is built from them.

StepPrint itWhy it sits here
Warm-up tracing lines worksheetsbefore any letter Six line directions — standing, sleeping, slanting, the open curve, waves and zigzags — on rows of their own, so each movement is learned alone before any letter asks for it.
1 letter l tracing worksheetone bare line One stroke, no turns, nothing to join and nothing to repeat — the lowest score on every measure. It opens the letters the way the warm-up opens the strokes: with the standing line.
2 letter c tracing worksheetthe first curve The same figures as l — one stroke, no turns, no joins — but the path bends, and straight comes before curve in the warm-up rows. c follows l by exactly that one step.
3 letter e tracing worksheetthe hard starting point Still a single stroke, but the hand now changes direction mid-letter and the start sits on the middle line — the first shape that asks two new things at once.
4 letter t tracing worksheetline, then the bar Two strokes, both dead straight, with nothing to join or repeat — the demands are one crossing and one careful roofline. The first two-piece letter, and the first with no curve in it.
5 letter d tracing worksheetthe arc plus a line The first letter where a curve and a straight pull must work as one shape — and the first with a mirror twin, who waits further down the ladder.
6 letter b tracing worksheeteasy shapes, strict order Two easy shapes with one unforgiving rule — the stick lands before the ball. Sequence is the whole difficulty, which is why it waits until the shapes are steady.
7 letter m tracing worksheetthe counting letter One motion performed twice, judged only by the count — the letter that fails if the second arch goes missing.

All seven live letters sit on the ladder above, with the warm-up they all stand on. New pages slot in at the difficulty rung they belong to — never into alphabetical order.

A to Z — where every letter stands

Twenty-six slots, two states: live meant its worksheet page can be printed today, in progress means that page isn't written yet — so it is listed by name only, with nothing linked to it.

Seven live letters so far — every one of them is already on the ladder above; grid and table count the same set.

Every letter that hasn't gone live yet can still be practised today: type any word into the name tracing generator and the letters you need appear on the same ruled lines, ready to print — the dedicated pages catch up one at a time.
